If you’re planning an event and want to keep things affordable and enjoyable, you’re in the right place. Let’s dig in.

DIY Food Bars:

Pizza bar, pasta bar, taco bar, salad bar, nacho bar, baked potato bar, bagel bar, sundae bar. Main Street Pizza can provide cheese pizza, and the local Food Pride has plenty of toppings.

Crockpot Potluck:

Everyone brings a classic dish to contribute to meal time, crockpot style! Possible themes to consider: soup/chili/stew, comfort food, game day, Mexican fiesta (enchiladas, tacos, rice), family heritage.

Charcuterie:

Make your own trendy and casual grazing experience or hire Graze on the Go!

Stone Soup:

Each guest brings pre-cooked food scraps or themed ingredients to add to a communal soup dish. Don’t forget the broth, and a large pot or crockpot(s).

We’ve seen this work firsthand at the Ovid Inn. When the Eastern Michigan University Gymnastics team stayed with us, they built their own DIY meal spread, and it became one of their favorite parts of their visit—a relaxed, budget-friendly dinner that doubled as team bonding. Moments like that remind us that great hospitality isn’t about extravagance; it’s about connection.

So go ahead and mix, match, and make it your own. With the right ideas and a welcoming space, feeding a crowd can be both affordable and unforgettable.
